A job is something everyone takes up for a living. It is part of Career. It is a part of Life. But then I felt we take jobs just for materialistic reasons and soon start complaining. I have done that too.. So one day about an year back, I sat down and started to write down what exactly might keep me motivated in a job.. After much thought process, I realized that Learning, Earning and Owning are the things that kept me happy in a job.
Learning: The moment you stop learning new things, it is a downhill from that point. I always was interested in learning new stuff on the job. A challenge, an innovation, a different approach etc have always excited me. What s the fun in doing things you know repeatedly. The excitement lies in doing it differently, better and in new way.. For this to happen, I always try to make sure I do on the job learning.. I do realize that everyday world does always demand "Difference" but in order to move to the next step, we need it.. In Short, Today you can't things of yesterday and expect to be in tomorrow. And Today becomes yesterday tomorrow and this means Learning is a continuous process.
Earning: Sadly there are is nothing like "Free Lunch". Need the big bucks for everything under the sun. Money to me is not only a way to satisfy my worldly desires but a measuring stick for how important the employer thinks I am to the organization, how dispensable I am. I need this one to make sure that I can spend without second thoughts and thus save time in making decisions. Classy might not be always necessary but messy is not welcome too... I try to maintain a life of average organized person and thus require a earning to keep this going...
Owning: This is related to responsibilities and team work.. I would like that the component I am working on is owned by the team I work with.. I never liked to work alone and work on things that are responsibilities of others. The product, the component or feature is always I treat as my baby and make sure that it meets every angle of expectation. This adds meaning to the work you do.. You do it because it is yours..
I always will try to make sure I have these three things in my job!!!and gladly I do now!!!
"The moment you stop learning new things, it is a downhill from that point""----I always always believe in this..in fact i try to learn even from others' mistakes..guess that's too much learning...
